The short answer, yes. Outside of Panama City, most businesses are cash only. If you are planning excursions, surfing, or massages, these small business only work with cash. There are NO ATMs in Cambutal, so please plan accordingly.

Panama uses the same voltage and outlets at the United States. Please check any appliances you might be bringing for compatibility.

Panama is a Spanish speaking country. Feel free to brush up a bit on some key phrases before you get here. But not to worry, there are many English speakers here in Cambutal to help you out.

Absolutely. Of course, be smart, just was you would traveling any where and you’ll be just fine. The government is stable and the people here are incredibly kind.

We get this question a lot. And as much as it feels like island life out here, no, Panama is not an island. It is an isthmus; the thin land bridge that connects Central America to South America, located between Costa Rica and Colombia.

We use a shuttle service that will pick you up from Panama City and bring you directly to our location in Cambutal on the first Sunday morning of your training or retreat.

For walkability and lots to do, we recommend staying in Casco Viejo, a neighborhood just outside of downtown Panama City. There are MANY option which you are free to explore. Here are a few of our recommended hotels:

This is a very personal choice. That being said, we recommend that you try to bring everything you need in a carry-on sized bag. This will streamline your immigration and customs process and make travel time a bit easier. Here is our ‘basic’ packing list for a one week stay:
-your passport (make sure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months after your arrival to Panama and make a photocopy before leaving home to leave with your emergency contact)
-a credit or debit card (make a photocopy before leaving home and leave it with your emergency contact)
-cash (most things here in Cambutal are cash based. if you choose to partake in any extras, please be prepared with some cash. your rooms are lockable and Cambutal is extremely safe)
-3 pairs of yoga (or athletic) pants/leggings/shorts
-5 tank tops or t-shirts for yoga practice
-3 sports bras (for those that wear them)
-7-10 pairs of underwear
-1 pair athletic socks
-3 swimsuits
-1 pair of sneakers or athletic shoe that you are okay getting wet or dirty (for hikes, waterfall tours, horseback riding, etc)
-1 pair of flip-flops or comfortable sandal (you will be barefoot most of the time, but we have black sand beaches which get hot so having something to easily slide on and off is important)
-3 comfortable/casual outfits (shorts and tops, sundresses)
-2 ‘nicer’ outfits for dinners out or if you just feel like dressing up a bit
-1 pair of long pants and 1 long-sleeve shirt (sometimes we have cooler nights or nights with more mosquitoes, so it’s nice to cover your legs and arms)
-1 white outfit for our graduation ceremony and other guest ceremonies
-a sarong and/or turkish towel
-sunglasses
-sun hat
-surf rash-guard or surf-suit if you plan to surf or take lessons
-hair-ties
-water bottle (The water from the tap here is filtered well water for drinking and you will need to stay hydrated. Please bring your own bottle to keep with you at all times.)
-small backpack or shoulder bag for class materials and for day trips
-feminine products
-toothbrush and toothpaste
-deodorant
-sunscreen (Some will be provided. If you choose to bring your own PLEASE be sure that it is eco-friendly and reef-safe!)
-insect repellant (Yes, this is the tropics. We have natural insect repellant available, if you have one of your preference you are welcome to bring it.)
-cell phone and cell phone chargers
-headphones
-laptop if you would like to do assignments on it (for trainings)
-journal and pen
-book for leisure reading or Kindle
Some basic, bio-degradable hygiene products will be available. If there is anything eco-safe that you would like to bring and use you are more than welcome to.
Bath towels and bed linens are supplied here.
Yoga mats and props are also here for you to use.
