New Year Reset: Moving into 2025 with Intention

I almost can’t believe we are heading into another new year! 2024 was chockfull for me, our family, and our community. With everything going on it seems to have flown by. I am called to sit and reflect on all that has come to pass so that I can move forward into 2025 with clarity and connection. I also feel compelled to set some goals for this year that we can actually stick to.

As important as it is to live in the present moment, there are also times where there is value in reflection and setting goals for the future. And the New Year is one of those times!

I’m not a huge fan of making resolutions, but rather realigning with what is right for me, to live intentionally and to make the most of the time we have. We have an opportunity to evolve and grow with each day, each moment, each breath. “This year isn’t about resolutions. It’s about a (re)evolution.”

Here are some things I am doing to wrap up this year with intention:

  • Clean the house. Clear out anything that you no longer use or that “sparks joy.” This includes going through your closet, your pantry, your bathroom, the kids rooms, everything. Then cleanse the house with sage or palo santo to release old energy and invite in fresh energy. Start the new year with a simple, tidy home.

  • Journal reflection.

    • What are you most proud of from this past year?

    • What caused you the most stress this year?

    • When times were the hardest, who was there for you?

    • Where did you choose to focus your energy and with whom?

    • Does this align with where you want to be and how you want to feel in the new year?

    • Do you need to make changes in where you prioritize your time and with whom you spend your time?

    • What were some of the most fun things you did this year?

    • When were you happiest and with whom?

    • If you had to summarize 2024 into one word what would it be?

  • Move your body. As important as it is to clear our external space, it is invaluable to clear our bodies from anything stagnant from this past year. Find a movement practice that works for you. For example, on New Year’s Eve morning, I will be offering a 108 Sun Salutation practice to cleanse our bodies and allow us to move into 2025 with an open and healthy body.

And here are some practices to help us move forward into the new year:

  • Journaling.

    • What’s one goal you would like to accomplish by the end of 2025?

    • What area of your life do you want to focus on the most this year? (career, family, relationships, finances, community, travel, etc…)

    • What’s a new skill you would like to learn this year?

    • How can you make your home environment more comfortable and inspiring?

    • What are three things you can do to be more organized this year?

    • What can you do to improve your physical wellbeing this year?

    • What are your financial goals for 2025?

  • Movement. The same practice that helped you to clear out 2024 will also help you set the tone for 2025. Start the new year with a commitment to move your body. Walk more. Take the stairs. Go to a weekly yoga class. Find a workout buddy. Start surfing or swimming.

  • Enjoy healthy food. You may choose to indulge a bit on New Years Eve. Go ahead! And then choose to enjoy healthier choices. Eat a balanced breakfast on January 1. Go the market and stock the pantry with nutrient dense foods, fresh fruits and veggies, nuts and seeds, free-range meats, unprocessed snacks and the like.

  • Time and energy management. After reflecting on 2024, notice where you would like to focus your time and energy. And make steps to implement this. Organize your week with time to work, socialize consciously, spend time with as a family, and strengthen your relationships.

  • Say no. It’s okay, healthy even, to say no. We are socially trained to accept invitations and say yes to most anything. This year, give yourself permission to say no. It is okay to disappoint others so that you can nurture yourself and your family.

  • Choose your word of the year. What is one word that can sum up how you want to feel in 2025? Write it on a post-it note and stick it to your bathroom mirror or refrigerator. Let it motivate you every day to realign with how you want to feel this year.

  • Plan an adventure. Whether it is to a new country, a new state, or just a nearby spot that you haven’t visited before, plan an adventure for this year. Give yourself a new experience and something exciting to look forward to.

Loka samastha sukhino bhavanthu.

May all beings everywhere be happy and free. And may our thoughts and actions contribute to the happiness and freedom of all.

I hope that you enjoy a happy, healthy and safe new year.

Much love,

Loren
